It’s spooky month, so we’re sharing the kind of scary stories that only chefs truly understand. No ghosts, no ghouls, just the everyday refrigeration nightmares that cost kitchens money, stock and sleep. The good news is that each of these stories has a happy ending, and it starts with fridge drawers.

1. The Tub at the Back

It was like any other shift. You walk over to the refrigerator to find the ingredients you need. But as you start removing items, you spot a tub hidden at the very back. It’s unlabelled, and you have no idea how long it’s been there.

The Adande fix: With Adande commercial refrigerated drawers, you can see the whole storage area and every ingredient at once. Nothing hides behind the front row, so there’s less chance of products being forgotten, and less chance of finding something that has been quietly turning into a science experiment. The Adande VCS2 under counter drawers put bulk storage right at your prep point, with room for 4 x 1/1 GN pans per drawer, so everything is in plain sight.

2. The Temperature Creep

It was like any other shift, until you get closer and realise the temperature on the fridge has risen to 9°C. Suddenly, food goes off fast and food safety is put at risk. Customers end up unhappy, stock is wasted, money is lost and the bad reviews start to roll in.

The Adande fix: Adande drawers are designed to hold their temperature, thanks to an insulated container that keeps cold air where it belongs. You also get precise control, with a temperature range from +15°C to -22°C, so you can set each drawer to exactly what your stock needs. Both the VCS2 and the Matchbox VCM2 offer that full range, and both are tested to Climate Class 4 and 5, so they’re built for hot, busy kitchens.

3. The Open Door

It was like any other shift, until you get closer and realise the door has been left open. Every time an upright commercial fridge door opens, thermodynamics wins. The heavy, cold air falls straight out onto the kitchen floor and is replaced by hot, humid kitchen air. That temperature spike triggers rapid ingredient oxidation. And oxidation isn’t just a cosmetic problem, it’s a chemical one. When warm air brings in oxygen and humidity, food surfaces degrade quickly. Moisture evaporates, proteins oxidise, and premium prep goes straight into the waste bin.

The Adande fix: When an Adande drawer is open, the cold doesn’t simply spill onto the floor. The insulated horizontal container retains much of the cold air. Adande “holds the cold” like nobody else.

4. The Falling Tub

It was like any other shift. You walk over to the refrigerator to find the ingredients you need. But as you start removing items, you knock a tub off the top shelf. Food is wasted, there’s a safety risk, service is disrupted, stock is lost and efficiency takes a hit.

The Adande fix: With an Adande, the contents move towards you in a controlled, horizontal motion rather than being stacked on high shelves behind a swinging door. Spills become far less likely, and because the drawers sit at working height, there’s no reaching up to awkward shelves.

Meet the Drawers That Banish the Horror

The Adande VCS2 Under Counter Drawers. A two-drawer unit with a cover top, designed for bulk storage at the point of use. It’s ideal for meat, deli, larder, pastry and dessert prep, as well as garnish and mise en place. It can even provide frozen storage right next to your deep fry station.

The Adande Matchbox VCM2. The one-of-a-kind option for central islands. The Matchbox gives chefs on both sides of the counter access to the same fridge-to-freezer drawers, so nobody has to walk around the island or make a trip to the walk-in mid-service.

Both units hold 86 litres and up to 40kg of food per drawer, and both are backed by a 5-year warranty on all major parts.

Make Your Kitchen a Horror-Free Zone

Nobody wants a scary surprise in their walk-in or upright fridge. Adande’s range of fridge drawers and commercial refrigerated drawers is built to give chefs better visibility, steadier temperatures and safer, easier access to their stock.
